Art has always been part of my life in one form or another. My mother was an artist and always encouraged my artistic endeavours. Back in the ’70s and ’80s, it was drawing, crochet, and needlepoint. In the last ten or so years, I have become involved in painting, pen & ink, and beading, but I always look for ways to integrate several of these art forms together, hence my interest in using painting and fibers in jewelry making.

I'm Julie Crawford, a knitter/designer/writer in Toronto, Canada. I learned to knit when I was a little kid, and then got a lot more into it when I was living in Istanbul, Turkey 2002-2004 (teaching English) and started knitting socks. When I came back to Canada, I branched into baby sweaters for friends who began having little ones, but it was a difficult time in 2007 that really got me knitting seriously- learning about the variety of yarn fibers, and the wealth of beautiful knitting patterns out there. I’m a writer, sewer and embroidery designer who enjoys vintage sewing, embroidery and general ‘making of pretty stuff’.  I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Masters degree in Comparative Literature and Arts.  I’ve been crafting and sewing as long as I can remember and my Barbies were always very well dressed.  My work and designs have been published in magazines including Sew News, Create and Decorate, A Needle Pulling Thread, Crafts n Things and more.
